MARGARET NORRIS
Margaret moved to Nashville with her husband, John, in 1957. In the 1960s, she worked as a Staff Physician at the Vanderbilt Student Health Clinic, then began a three-year residency in Psychiatry and went into private practice. Eventually she began working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the V.A., retiring in 1998. Margaret has been listed as a noteworthy Psychiatrist by Marquis Who's Who. Margaret joined St. Augustine's shortly after she moved to Nashville. She serves as an Emeritus member of the St. Augustine's Advisory Board and has written a short history of St. Augustine’s. Margaret has been a loyal member of the Vanderbilt Woman’s Club for 65 years. She always remembers how welcoming the Newcomers’ Club was to her when she first came to Vanderbilt. She has been a Book Group One member for over 60 years. At first the Book Group was very serious, Margaret recalls, with presentations on Russian authors and other erudite topics. Over the years, things changed to themes and authors the members could really enjoy. Margaret also participated in the Dance Group. Music was provided by the Doctors’ Orchestra. Sadly the group disbanded when their orchestra was no longer available and the hiring of another orchestra proved prohibitive. Margaret's avocation is swimming, and she can still be seen at a variety of VWC events - lectures, lunches, Backyard Music, Kendra Scott Jewelry Night, etc. Her active lifestyle, keen wit, and dedication to the Club are an inspiration to Vanderbilt Womans Club members of all ages.
