Pratheepa Rasiah
Brief Overview
My current research focuses on understanding neurodegeneration in the eye and brain after acute and chronic trauma. Recent research projects are centered around understanding the close connection, neural organization, and shared characteristics of the retina and the brain, making it a valuable tool for understanding the degeneration accompanying various types of trauma. This is a critical area of research in the face of helping military professionals, veterans, and civilians for the development of evidence-based interventions and policies that promote the best possible care and outcomes. Parallel projects include modulating the peripheral nervous system and immune cells with infrared neural stimulation (short-wave IR), cervical mapping of vasculature patterns to predict pre-term pregnancy, and characterizing the stepwise progression of uveal melanoma using Raman spectroscopy.
