The life cycle of an organism is adaptive to the surrounding environment. By observing the life cycles of different organisms, students can find overarching ideas for every life cycle, as well as how those ideas are played out specifically for each organism. For example, what an organism eats changes over the course of the life cycle. Comparison among several different organisms can also fuel more discussion about biological adaptation as well as structure-function relationships.
