Winners of the two prizes - the Anna Julia Cooper Prize in the Humanities and the Ida B. Wells Prize in the Social Sciences - will each receive $3000 and the opportunity for a book contract.

In October, a biennial symposium will be convened at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where winners and runners-up will share their research.
