Call for Graduate Writing Consultant Applications – Expedited Recruitment for January 2025 Start

The Writing Studio is now carrying out an expedited process to recruit graduate and professional students to join our staff of Graduate Writing Consultants beginning in January 2025.

For our limited number of mid-year openings, we are prioritizing applicants with relevant teaching or tutoring experience.*

*We ask those without teaching or tutoring experience to consider applying during our separate application cycle this spring. Successful applicants during that later cycle will start with us in August for the following academic year.

In service of our mission to support writing across the whole Vanderbilt community, we encourage applications from students from diverse backgrounds and from departments and programs across the University. Likewise, we welcome applications from students who are multilingual or who have experience supporting language learning.

Potential applicants are encouraged to use the form below to apply or submit an “intent to apply” without delay. Review of applications will begin immediately, and interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis as early as December 9.

Primary Application Materials (to be submitted via the online application form)

  • letter of application demonstrating specific interest in this position and dedication to the teaching of writing
  • CV
  • writing sample – no more than 20 pages (a recent sample showing the candidate’s engagement with the expectations of writing in their field is preferred, but any sample demonstrating one’s writing abilities can be acceptable)

To apply, complete the Graduate Writing Consultant online application form.

Applicants who are invited to interview will also be asked to have a set of secondary application materials submitted on their behalf prior to the targeted January 2025 start date. Those secondary materials include:

  • a brief faculty letter of recommendation
  • a statement from your Director of Graduate Studies on your availability to take on a campus work assignment (and any restrictions on the hours you are able to work).
