Call for Submissions – 15th Annual Undergraduate Writing Symposium – Deadline: January 20
The Vanderbilt Writing Studio invites you to submit your work to the 15th annual Undergraduate Writing Symposium.
In Spring 2023, the Undergraduate Writing Symposium will be held as two separate events, each with its own distinct focus while including an online gallery showcasing writers’ work and ample opportunity to get to know this year’s writers through Author Talks.
In honor of the symposium’s 15th anniversary, the theme of this year’s event will be “Writing as Discovery.”
As we gather together once again to honor undergraduates’ achievements as writers, we will celebrate writing as an activity essential not just to communication and learning, but to the pursuit of new knowledge and creative exploration of ideas.
Participation in the Symposium is highly selective and papers are chosen by way of a blind review process. Those who are selected will be invited to present their work at the Symposium on March 31, 2023. In preparation for the event, presenters will have the opportunity to work with Writing Studio consultants to revise their projects.
We welcome argumentative essays, research reports, creative pieces (fiction, poetry, etc.) and other writing projects, including multimodal compositions, for this year’s symposium. Submissions must have been completed during the 2022 calendar year.
The self-nomination and submission deadline is Friday, January 20, 2023.
To compete for inclusion in the Undergraduate Writing Symposium, please visit our Symposium Submissions and Self-Nominations page.
Once you submit your work, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission. Notification of acceptance to participate in the event will be sent out in late February.
