Internship Descriptions & Expectations
Women’s Center Internship Expectations & Descriptions 2024-2025
Because of the high volume of applicants, the Women’s Center will only be considering those who are able to meet all of the expectations listed below. If you are selected to intern with the Women’s Center and fail to meet these expectations, you will be asked to leave your position.

For the 2024-2025 school year, the training dates are below. These trainings are mandatory, and if you are not able to attend this year’s trainings, we ask that you please hold off on applying this year, and instead apply next year.

Weekly Meetings
Weekly meetings are an integral part of the internship experience. These are typically 45 minutes to an hour long. Weekly meeting times will be determined at the fall training based on schedules. Interns are given two absences per semester. They are expected to communicate those absences to their supervisor at least 24 hours in advance.
Programming
Vandy Sex Ed interns must facilitate at least two programs per semester. These workshops may be Let’s Talk about Sex, Vandy workshops, or other programs. During the spring semester, there is an extra requirement of participation during Sex Ed and Healthy Relationships Week in February. During SEHR, interns are expected to lead 1-2 programs, and attend as many programs as they can. This week of programming is in addition to the two workshop facilitation requirements during the semester.
The Bold Space interns must facilitate at least two programs per semester. These monthly programs can consist of discussions surrounding imposter syndrome, gaining confidence, self-advocacy, disability rights and accessibility, body image, community and political advocacy, and mental health.
Women’s Center Ambassadores interns must facilitate two programs per semester. These programs can consist of a mix of Kitchen Table Series discussions, Feminism 101 workshops, or other programs.
Communication, Timeliness, and Accountability
We ask that interns communicate through email and GroupMe. Communication should be timely and consistent. If there are lapses in communication on the part of the intern, the supervisor will ask to meet with the intern to discuss communication standards.
We ask that interns arrive on time and, if possible, early to weekly meetings, programs, workshops, and events. We are often presenting to other groups on campus, so timeliness is critical. It is also essential to complete assigned tasks on time and plan ahead for programs or events. If interns do not complete tasks in a timely manner, or do not arrive on time for programs, the supervisor will meet with the intern to discuss time management.
We ask that interns hold themselves accountable to this work, and put their best foot forward during their time as a Women’s Center intern.
Card Access
As an intern for the Women’s Center, you will be given card access to the center. If you are selected for an internship, we will go into further detail about the rules for card access.
Internship Descriptions
Vandy Sex Ed:
The Vandy Sex Ed program arms undergraduate peer educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to help both themselves and their peers make healthy and informed decisions about sex and sexuality. Vandy Sex Ed interns present Let’s Talk about Sex, Vandy workshops, along with a number of other programs throughout the year.
The Bold Space:
The Bold Space is a feminist collective dedicated to bringing awareness about challenges in confidence that students may face, while also using their voices and collective power to advocate on a community level. The Bold Space interns facilitate monthly EmBOLDen Vandy events designed to make space for conversations about advocacy on campus.
Women’s Center Ambassadores:
The Women’s Center Ambassadores (WCA) internship addresses feminism and gender equity at large. In addition to developing programs of their own, WCA interns help to promote and staff the Women’s Center’s larger events. WCA interns are responsible for the monthly Kitchen Table Series as well as various by-request Feminism 101 programs. WCA interns sometimes collaborate with student groups and departments on events that intersect with feminism.
