Transfer Student Resources
Transfer Student Orientation
Transfer Student Orientation is the required orientation program for new transfer students. It is designed to offer a robust introduction to life at Vanderbilt, including informational sessions and small-group discussions that will help you navigate your academic program, campus resources, extracurricular activities and student life on Vanderbilt’s campus.
You will also connect with other incoming transfer students and your Transfer Student Leader, or TSL, (a junior or senior who previously transferred to Vanderbilt), who will serve as a guide throughout your first semester at Vanderbilt.
International Transfer Students
All incoming transfer students must attend Transfer Student Orientation. As an international transfer student, you are welcome to attend International Student Orientation.
Transfer Credits
The External Education Unit will review previous course work for newly admitted students once official final transcripts from other institution(s) are received. Courses that are already listed in the Transfer Credit Search tool, available through Your Enrollment Services (YES), will be posted to your Vanderbilt record.
For courses taken elsewhere that have not been evaluated by Vanderbilt, the External Education Unit will facilitate the evaluation process. If course information cannot be found, the External Education Unit will send you an email to request the necessary information.
Transfer Student Social Media
Follow @TransfersofVU on Instagram and join the Transfer Hub, found within the Vanderbilt Admitted Student Community, to connect with other incoming transfer students and Transfer Student Leaders.
Getting Connected
Incoming transfer students at Vanderbilt have many opportunities to connect with fellow transfers, starting with Transfer Student Orientation and extending throughout their Vanderbilt experience.
Transfer Connect, a student organization, offers support, guidance and community to transfer students throughout their transition to academic and student life at Vanderbilt. Transfer Connect puts together transfer group meetings during Transfer Student Orientation, hosts ongoing programming open to all transfer students and oversees the Transfer Student Leaders (TSL).
Over the summer, incoming transfer students will be assigned a TSL who will serve as their guide at orientation and their peer mentor throughout the fall semester.
Transfer Student Transition Programming
- Connecting to VU (CVU) is Vanderbilt’s six-week extended orientation program for transfer students, specifically tailored to align with the needs and interests of this unique student population. The purpose of the program is to provide new transfer students with an optional avenue to continue building community with one another after the required Transfer Student Orientation program ends.
- Coffee with a Commodore is an ongoing program created to help new transfer students meet fellow commodores outside the transfer community. Through this initiative, new transfers are invited to meet for coffee with an upper-division student who began their career at Vanderbilt as a first-year.
- Transfer Community Socials are gatherings hosted in the residential areas where transfer students live. Sweet treats are provided for transfer students to enjoy as they meet and build community with other transfer students in their residence hall.
