The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University (VUBME) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. VUBME seeks an outstanding candidate who can add to existing strengths in translational research working at the interface between surgery and engineering. This search is closely associated with the Vanderbilt Institute in Surgery and Engineering (ViSE: www.vanderbilt.edu/vise), which is an interdisciplinary, trans-institutional center whose mission is the creation, development, implementation, clinical evaluation and translation of methods, devices, algorithms, and systems designed to facilitate interventional processes and their outcome. The center offers an extensive array of unique interventional instrumentation, spatial localization systems, interventional imaging and therapeutic delivery devices, medical robotic prototypes, modeling and image analysis platforms, and multi-scale device fabrication facilities. While the core faculty of ViSE span three engineering departments and nearly a dozen surgical and interventional specialties, this particular search is focused for an exceptional candidate to be appointed within the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Candidates with strengths in interventional medical imaging, medical image processing & computer vision, intraoperative diagnostics for surgery, modeling for simulation and interventional/surgical processes, instrumentation and surgical devices/systems for image-guided delivery, and clinically-ready localized drug delivery platforms, are of particular interest. Outstanding candidates applicable to established strengths in regenerative nanobioengineering, microphysiological systems engineering, biomedical photonics, and medical imaging will also be considered. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program, along with an equal commitment to outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This opportunity is part of a trans-institutional programmatic thrust on ‘Healthcare Solutions’ and leverages an institutional effort for a more integrated relationship between Vanderbilt University School of Engineering and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
VUBME (www.bme.vanderbilt.edu) exists at both the scientific and geographic boundary of Vanderbilt’s engineering and clinical departments of its renowned medical center, making it an ideal location for engineering research at the interface of technology and surgical/interventional medicine.
