Philip Swaney of the MED Lab was recognized with the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics.

Summary of the presentation:

Lung cancer is the  most deadly form of cancer, and survival depends on early-stage diagnosis and treatment. Toward accurate diagnosis of lung cancer, we have created a new robotic system that uses a flexible bronchoscope, a concentric tube robot, and a steerable needle to access suspicious nodules for biopsy. In the presentation we discussed the individual components of the system and the workflow we envision for deploying the robot to the target under image guidance.
