Bio:
Erin Gillaspie was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario Canada and moved to the US with her family at the age of 12. Her mom began a new job at as an administrative assistance at a small hospital and Erin began volunteering there doing mail delivery with her younger sister Devin. The two girls became known to the staff of the hospital and one day were invited to come watch a total knee replacement with an orthopedic surgery. It was that experience that laid the groundwork for both girls pursuing careers in surgery. Dr. Gillaspie pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida in 2 years studying Microbiology and Cell Science followed by medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the Bassett Columbia Program in Cooperstown NY followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota.
She has been on staff at Vanderbilt for the last two years. She is passionate about lung cancer research and incorporating new technologies into the treatment of patients. She has started and serves as the head of the Thoracic Surgery Robotics Program at VUMC and works with the bioengineering school in the development of new devices and applications.
