Overview

The Rogers group focuses on studies involving surfaces, interfaces, and films of technically important materials. We determine the relationship between how a material was processed and its material properties and performance in a targeted application. We create materials using several processing techniques, including chemical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, and combustion synthesis. We use surface sensitive analysis techniques, such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy to characterize our materials. Our most recent work has been in the area of oxide-based ceramic phosphors for solid-state lighting and displays. Our newest project involves creating calcium phosphate coatings on polymer scaffolds to mimic the chemistry and morphology of bone.
