To share our love of making tiny things for science, VINSE participated in this year’s TN Maker Fest. VINSE NanoGuides showcase nanoscale using familiar items in three engaging interactive demonstrations.
Pencils to Prizes – attendees made their own single-atom-thick materials like a Nobel Prize winner with tape and pencil lead, saw how electricity interacts with these materials, and learned how scientists and engineers use these super thin super cool materials.
Nanoscientist Outfit Photo-Op – attendees learned why scientists wear funny suits in a very “clean” room and got a picture to take home of themselves with a clean room suit cutout.
What’s the Big Deal with Small Patterns? – for a tasty take on photolithography, attendees learned how the microchips “brains” of electronic devices are made with tiny stencils and mimicked the process scientists use by making their very own food-based chips with frosting, frosting, and sprinkles.
Hosted by the Wond’ry at Vanderbilt University, the TN Makerfest is an event that bring makers together with exhibits ranging from art, to candle making, to fabrication, to robotics, and more.
