Bio: Jordan Hachtel is a staff scientist in the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) specializing in monochromated electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) in the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM). He received his PhD from Vanderbilt University in 2016 from Professor Sokrates Pantelides, and worked as a postdoc with Dr. Juan Carlos Idrobo at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until converting to staff in 2019. Jordan’s research focuses on the development of advanced techniques as well as the applications of monochromated STEM-EELS to power electronics, biological/organic specimens, quantum materials, and infrared nanophotonics.
