On Tuesday, April 23, VINSE welcomed nine students from Clay County High School to our Forensics Lab. Their job was to find proof of “murderer” using the various tools in the lab before the end of the day! Our NanoGuides provided an introduction to the optical properties of natural and exotic synthetic materials, and led activities in four different stations. Students used several types of spectroscopies including Raman, FTIR, absorption and photoluminescence. They also extracted chlorophyll from spinach, analyzed perfumes and took spectra on different jewelry.
Special thanks to our NanoGuides Swarnim Neema, Jack Loken, Emma Endres and William Lowery for their invaluable assistance. If your school is interested in this scientific activity, please contact us for more information!
