Researcher Highlight: Laura Bertolami

Laura

Laura Bertolami, a senior undergraduate Chemical Engineering student on Senior Tech Crew.

I have been working on the tech crew since May 2022, and have been senior tech crew since October 2023. My current project involves developing parameters for multiple aperture patterning with Electron Beam Lithography as well as developing standards for available feature sizes with each aperture setting. By using the optimal aperture for individual features, patterning time can be reduced to streamline tool use. In past projects, I have worked on expanding the capabilities of the profilometer by exploring sequencing techniques and developing scaling parameters for the multimode deposition chamber.

In addition to project work, I work with the other tech crew and staff to ensure that the cleanroom is ready for users. I manage the daily task list for the tech crew to help coordinate everything from printed nametags to chemical inventories. I give input on cleanroom process development and will often help staff with equipment troubleshooting.

One of my favorite responsibilities on tech crew is getting to work with local high school students through the various outreach programs that the VINSE staff supports. During my first few months on tech crew, a particularly high energy high school class came in for a tour and several demonstrations. After they left, I ran into two other tech crew that were precariously balanced on rolling chairs, and asleep, in Litho 2.

I am beyond grateful for all the VINSE staff for supporting me throughout my time on tech crew and have loved working with such a wonderful group of people.
