Congratulations to Nicole Moehring, recipient of the 2023 VINSE Best Graduate Student Publication award. Nicole’s publication in ACS Nano reports on a novel chemical vapor deposition process to form precise Angstrom-scale pores in graphene – an atomically thin sheet of carbon atoms. This work has potential impact for energy conversion, energy storage, and separations applications. During this past year, Nicole won the North American Membrane Society Student Fellowship, the AIChE Separations Division Graduate Student Award, and a DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research award. In addition to a cash prize, Nicole will give the graduate student presentation at the 23rd annual Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Forum on December 8, 2023.
“Kinetic Control of Angstrom-Scale Porosity in 2D Lattices for Direct Scalable Synthesis of Atomically Thin Proton Exchange Membranes,” authored by Nicole K. Moehring, Pavan Chaturvedi, Peifu Cheng, Wonhee Ko, An-Ping Li, Michael S.H. Boutilier, and Piran R. Kidambi, was published in ACS Nano, vol. 16, pp. 16003-16018, 2022.
