Congratulations to Madeleine Fort recipient of the 2022 VINSE Best Graduate Student Publication award. In addition to a cash prize, Madeleine was selected to give the graduate student presentation at the 22nd annual Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Forum.
Madeleine’s publication has provided a whole new knob to turn in how we design and improve solar energy capture technologies. Other techniques to improve rates come with downsides: loss of working voltage which cause an overall loss in power output, or really specialized surface chemistries that are not always chemically robust. Madeleine’s approach not only makes photo induced charge transfer from quantum dots faster, but it also makes the process more efficient and more powerful than other approaches, both literally and figuratively.
Not only was her work published in Angewandte Chemie, but her work when presented at an international conferences won an award for best presentation. As an indication of the breadth of the expected impact of her work, she has begun a collaboration with the Delcamp group at Ole Miss to use these charge acceptors in their dye sensitized solar cell designs.
