Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) is pleased to be able to invite groups of high school students, group size 20 or smaller, to visit our facilities, perform an experiment, utilize our electron microscope, tour our cleanroom, and learn about nanotechnology and energy during a day visit.
Our field trip program has hosted over 3,000 high school students from 60 middle Tennessee high schools representing 26 counties. The experiment module that we have developed is entitled “Constructing a Solar Cell from Fruit Pigment” during which the students fabricate and test a nano-structured solar cell, and operate an electron microscope to examine the structure on the nano-scale. Students will also receive a lecture on energy and nanotechnology, have lunch at the student union, and receive a tour of the new state-of-the-art VINSE cleanroom. This curriculum is designed for all high school students grades 9-12.
We are offering a limited number of field trips that we can arrange during the following dates: October 10-14, 2022, March 13-17, 2023 and April 25-May 11, 2023.
If your school is interested in this opportunity, reach out to VINSE at vinse@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
