Congratulations to VINSE Vanderbilt Summer Academy (VSA) scholarship winner, Corinne Cowan! Each year VINSE sponsors up to three scholarships for Tennessee students to attend the VSA program in nanosciences. Corinne is a rising sophomore with an interest in math and science, so the VSA’s two-week residential program that exposes students to the exciting world of nanoengineering is an opportunity that she is very excited to pursue. Corinne and other VSA students can expect advanced lectures, labs, and extensive study with faculty, graduate students, and postdocs and will get to spend significant time in one of Vanderbilt’s newest, biggest, and cleanest cleanrooms. These experiences will challenge students to see the world the way a nanoscientist does—how manipulating the smallest of particles might address some of the world’s biggest problems.
While heavily involved in academics and pursuing advanced courses, she also is involved in soccer, lacrosse, and theater. She is extremely excited for the opportunity to attend the VSA summer course to advance her studies and to visit Vanderbilt’s campus once more. Her father, an alumnus, took her to the Alumni Lawn in 2017 to watch the solar eclipse. We’re glad to have you back for VSA, Corinne!
