Jeremy Beam received his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2016 under the supervision of Dr. Charles Lukehart. His research was focused on confined-plume chemical deposition of transition metal borides and oxides initiated by pulsed, infrared tabletop lasers. He then accepted a post-doctoral position at the University of Saskatchewan and studied the coordination environment of transition metals using X-ray absorption spectroscopy with applications for the sequestration of nuclear waste. He currently is a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Carlsbad, NM in the Actinide Chemistry and Repository Science Program where he is investigating the redox behavior of plutonium in the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, a deep geological repository for the disposal of high-level nuclear waste.
