Bradly Baer, a second year PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Materials Science Program, has been awarded an internship to work with Lucas Lindsay at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which will propel his work into new areas. The ORNL Virtual Graduate Research Summer Internships (vGRSI) program allows graduate students access to facilities and personnel in collaborative research endeavors that support ongoing research interests at the national lab. Brad’s project involves the calculation and interpretation of phonon dispersions in superlattices (nanostructured materials). The work is fundamental but will have important implications in the world of IR optics, thermal transport in energy conversion devices, and more. Brad works for Prof. Greg Walker in the Vanderbilt University Mechanical Engineering department.
