Congratulations to Quinton Mcclain, recipient of the 2017 VINSE Scholarship to attend the Vanderbilt Summer Academy Program in Nanosciences. Quinton is a 10th grader at the Nashville School of Arts.
Students who attend VSA are among the brightest in the country, scoring in the top tier on academic achievement tests such as the SAT and ACT.
VINSE offers scholarships that fund the recipients’ academic coursework, room and board while at Vanderbilt. VINSE scholarships are limited to at-need Tennessee students that are from rural communities, would be first generation college, or are minority students.
Mcclain Bio
My academic interests center around science and psychology. Specifically for science I like the studying of the building blocks of everything. Organisms, structures, and theories are all examples to say a few. The in-depth view of all things concrete or abstract is what most piques my interests, whether it be the human mind or the atomic structure of an element. Simply finding out what makes something itself is, in my opinion, its most fascinating aspect. My non-academic interests include art and story creating. I hold more passion and interest towards art than story creating but both intertwine with each other. Art gives me ideas and inspiration while certain stories intrigue me. Concepts from the stories go into my art while the ideas from my art flood into little short stories. My art has rewarded me and I feel it may present several opportunities in the future.
