Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) is pleased to be able to invite groups of high school students, group size 20 or smaller, to visit our facilities, perform an experiment, utilize our electron microscope, and learn about nanotechnology and energy during a day visit. Our field trip program has hosted over 800 high school students from 36 middle Tennessee high schools representing fifteen counties. The experiment module that we have developed is entitled “Constructing a Solar Cell from Fruit Pigment” during which the students fabricate and test a nano-structured solar cell, and operate an electron microscope to examine the structure on the nano-scale. Students will also receive a lecture on energy and nanotechnology, and have lunch at the student union. This curriculum is designed for all high school students grades 9-12. Schools have the option to send students from one grade or select several from each grade. We are offering a limited number of field trips that we can arrange during the following dates: March 2 – March 6, 2015 and April 21 – May 7, 2015.
If your school is interested in this opportunity, please contact our office at 615-343-6868 or vinse@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
