Graduate Students Pam Hoover & Andrea Gardiner attend 2017 CITRL TMP Reception
Pam Hoover, PE, attended the closing reception for the 2016-2017 Center for the Integration of Research Teaching and Learning (CIRTL ) Tiered-Mentoring Program (TMP). As part of TMP, she attended monthly cohort and future faculty meetings in which teaching, assessing, and professional growth were discussed. She also attended the Evidence Based Teaching Workshop in January 2017.
At the reception, Pam was one of six groups who presented findings from their Teaching as Research (TAR) projects. Completion on these projects allows participants to be considered at the Scholar level of CIRTL. Pam’s presentation was entitled “Engaging Students to Enhance a Guest Lecture”. Her goal was to improve teaching quality during her guest lecture on “Understanding the Laboratory Report” for Dr. Jim Clarke’s Environmental Characterization and Analysis course.
Andrea Resch Gardiner, PE capped off her 2016-2017 CIRTL term as Project Coordinator of the CIRTL program at Vanderbilt with the TMP reception. The reception celebrated the 8 cohorts from the 2016-2017 academic year along with the presentation of Teaching as Research project findings.
During her time as Project Coordinator, Andrea coordinated the TMP, TAR, and the three annual Evidence Based Teaching Workshop. TMP involves curating cohorts for the program, coordinating monthly cohort meetings, and coordinating guidance for the TAR participants. The cohorts are comprised of a PhD student, Post Doctorate, Assistant Professor and Professor in STEM programs across the Vanderbitl University and Medical Center. Cohorts allow participants to gain different perspectives on career issues, questions, and experiences. The last workshop was in May for which she served as coordinator and speaker.
