I have a longstanding research focus on supporting human decision-making through technology and information. One of my portfolios centers around how to provide appropriate and actionable medical information to patients. Another centers on designing choice architectures (especially in the electronic medical record) that facilitate good decisions. I have students studying how cancer patients use the electronic patient portal, how to design decision support to facilitate shared patient-provider decision-making, and how to promote appropriate reliance on and trust in medical AI. My work has been funded by the NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, NSF, and foundations.
