My current research focuses on the philosophical implications of AI, specifically its political and economic implications. Scholars debate whether AI can do central economic planning to increase efficiency and reduce economic inequality. I’m writing a paper that intervenes in this debate. The debate concerns the epistemology and the political-economic consequences of AI. At the VALIANT AI program, I can contribute to the understanding of AI from a philosophical (epistemological, ethical, political, and economic) perspective. I can benefit from the technical knowledge of my future non-domain-specific AI mentor and other AI scholars and fellows. A potential interdisciplinary collaboration is co-authoring papers on the epistemology, ethics, and political-economic implications of AI as well as creating applications of AI using social and political philosophy. For instance, can AI help streamline, or ensure the security of, democratic elections in liberal societies (e.g., by detecting deepfakes, etc.)? I have a few other projects at the intersection of AI and blockchain that I hope to brainstorm at the program.
