Eric Tkaczyk Receives Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

On January 14, President Biden recognized nearly 400 outstanding scientists and engineers with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Among the 6 faculty awardees was Eric Tkaczyk, a physician-scientist whose research focuses on biophotonics for the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases.

Dr. Tkaczyk is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University in Dermatology, Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. He directs the Vanderbilt Dermatology Translational Research Clinic and is a staff physician at the VA. Tkaczyk is also a faculty member in the Vanderbilt Biophotonics Center and the Vanderbilt Institute for Surgery and Engineering, specializing in optical imaging systems for noninvasive early detection of dermatological conditions.
