Dr. Jesse Blocher is the Director of Graduate Studies for Vanderbilt University’s M.S. in Data Science and an Associate Professor of the Practice of Finance and Data Science. He specializes in the intersection of machine learning, quantitative finance, and business analytics, with applications across industries such as asset management, market structure, and financial networks.
With a Ph.D. in Finance from UNC-Chapel Hill, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech, Dr. Blocher has a diverse academic background. Before joining Vanderbilt in 2012, he worked as a consultant, software developer, and financial manager, bringing years of industry experience into his teaching and research.
Dr. Blocher is dedicated to bridging the gap between business and data science, ensuring students develop both technical and strategic skills. His research has been published in top financial journals, and he has received multiple awards for his contributions to financial economics.
