Undergraduate Data Science Student, Tingyan (Nicholas) Deng, in the News
Tingyan (Nicholas) Deng, a rising senior with a triple major in Computer Science, Math, and Economics, and minors in Data Science, Scientific Computing, Business, and Electrical Engineering discovered a passion for data science through an interdisciplinary DSI-SRP fellowship project with the Data Science Institute in the summer of 2020. The DSI fellowship offered Deng an opportunity to collaborate with faculty members and resulted in two first-authored papers. Deng believes that the DSI-SRP offers a unique opportunity for undergraduates across different majors at Vanderbilt to conduct data-oriented research at a significant level and explore more personal passions through the program and is using the data science knowledge that he gained in numerous other projects. He will be interning at Stanford University’s Data Science For Social Good Program this summer, where he will be working on the Improving Urban Neighborhood Environments to Reduce Inequities in the Well-Being project with a Stanford faculty member and their Ph.D. students.
