What’s in a name?

“What’s a Wond’ry?”

It’s a question that I’ve had to answer countless times since we officially launched as a center and people began to encounter our beautiful branding and distinctive name. Working for the Wond’ry this past summer and through first semester, I’ve been lucky to help shape some of our seminal programs and directions, including our branding process. Working with one of the coolest and quirkiest creative agencies in Nashville, redpepper, and getting to participate in developing our brand was a fascinating experience. I witnessed all of the brainstorming, creative energy, and refinement that goes into naming a new entity, and I was so excited about where we landed!

The name “the Wond’ry” is a combination of the words wonder and foundry because we are a place for all people to ideate and create. Part of why I love the name so much is because it encompasses our trans-disciplinary mission; you don’t have to be studying a certain subject or have any specific experience to have ideas or to create things. Beyond its expansive implications, our name is uniquely our own. You will never find another Wond’ry anywhere in the world, so when someone brings it up, you know exactly what they’re talking about.

Our exceptional space is truly open to anyone and any endeavor, it’s all in our name!
