Shane Cortesi
Registered Patent Attorney, Wright, Cortesi & Gilbreath
Shane began his career litigating patent cases and filing patent applications for two large New York City law firms before moving to Nashville in 2010. He has obtained allowance of over 150 U.S. patents and over 300 U.S. trademark registrations. Shane also recently successfully defended three U.S. patents in ex parte reexamination challenges at the U.S Patent Office.
Shane represents clients from multinationals to startups in a wide variety of technology areas, including toys, medical devices, consumer products, and specialty industrial products. He also has a growing practice representing celebrities and influencers particularly on trademark and licensing issues.
Shane routinely uses his litigation experience to inform his patent application practice; it’s just as important to obtain a patent that will hold up in court as it is to obtain allowance from the Patent Office.
Shane holds a B.A. in Zoology from Miami University and a M.S. in Biotechnology from Northwestern University. He received his Juris Doctorate, graduating with High Honors from The George Washington University in 2005. While at GW, he was an officer of the school’s intellectual property association and received The Chris Bartok annual award for Excellence in Patent Law.
Shane is licensed in all Tennessee state courts, is admitted in the Middle District of Tennessee, and has been licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office since 2005.
