DIVE Boot Camp
The last DIVE Boot Camp of the semester will be held Nov. 12 at the Wond’ry. This hands-on workshop will focus on creating technologies to improve life for people with disabilities. Participants will learn about and practice the five steps of human-centered design – empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test.
This innovative exercise will improve individuals’ problem-solving skills with the ultimate goal of advancing the human condition. Registration, along with a pizza lunch, will begin at 12:30 p.m. Boot camp training and challenges follow from 1-5 p.m.
“These DIVE Boot Camp events provide the Vanderbilt community with an immersive experience,” said Kevin Galloway, director of Design as an Immersive Vanderbilt Experience. “The goal is to give everyone the chance to explore the power of human-centered design as a tool to solve complex problems and the opportunity to experiment with the knowledge they have gained. We pack a lot into four hours and hope that everyone walks away with new problem-solving strategies that can be applied to their work and personal lives.”
Sunday’s boot camp will serve as a warmup for an upcoming Tikkun Olam Makers event in which participants have “72 hours to make a difference.” The TOM Global Makeathon will be held Jan. 19-21 in the Wond’y. It invites teams to help provide affordable assistive technology to people with disabilities around the world.
