Global Game Jam challenges gamers to build new games on the fly
Jan. 25, 2018—Game enthusiasts from Vanderbilt and across the midstate who belong to the Nashville Game Developers community will descend on Vanderbilt University’s Wond’ry Friday evening to participate in a global 48-hour marathon development challenge. Vanderbilt students develop technology for the disabled
Jan. 23, 2018—Teams spent the weekend working to develop practical solutions to help the disabled perform basic functions. Since Friday, they worked non-stop to create prosthetic and other assistive technologies. This was the first TOM: Vanderbilt Assistive Technology Makeathon. The teams were assigned to seven different “need knowers,” who let their teams know just what their needs are.

Economics senior Sasha Pines creates business sisterhood
Dec. 8, 2017—“I love entrepreneurship and the opportunity to make positive change by taking an idea and putting it into action,” she said. The San Diego native tested this philosophy at age 15 by launching a camp for children with special needs called Camp Let Loose. The camp was run mostly by high school students.
Familiar refrain in Nashville is collaborate, don’t compete
Dec. 6, 2017—Robert Grajewski is the center’s executive director. He described himself as a serial entrepreneur and venture capitalist who has worked in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. The Wond’ry opened in November 2016. Grajewski reports directly to Vanderbilt’s provost and chancellor. The center is funded from the school’s endowment with additional money from philanthropy and grants.
New cleanroom will boost nanoscale research
Nov. 15, 2017—Excited visitors got a firsthand look Tuesday at the new, state-of-the-art facilities for the Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, with the showpiece being a 10,000-square-foot, commercial-grade cleanroom.
