Ambassador Spotlight

Hello Vanderbilt community!

My name is Olivia Steinmetz and I am a Fall 2017 Student Ambassador at the Wond’ry. I am a sophomore studying Civil Engineering with minors in Music and Communication of Science and Technology. I hail from a small town outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and came to Vanderbilt knowing one thing: I am passionate about the values of an interdisciplinary education. That is why I wanted to join the Wond’ry team. I embrace the Wond’ry for its creation of an intellectually adaptable space dedicated to closing the traditional bridges in academia and connecting students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship. With my own explorations in the fields of STEM and music, I realize that when taken in isolation, these academic fields are less meaningful than when taken as a whole. Therefore, I strive to focus my attention over a variety of scholastic concentrations. Only recently, however, have I been able to fully realize and explore what that means and how I can incorporate all of my passions into my undergraduate experience. My project for this semester at the Wond’ry is to fulfill the center’s mission to be catalyst for the building and strengthening of creativity across campus by fostering and promoting a greater representation of Blair students and faculty. As a student enrolled in both the schools of Music and Engineering, my goal is to develop collaborative programming that will cater to a larger community of students, involving and engaging all interests and disciplines, most specifically those in music. Be on the lookout for new workshops and events aimed towards meeting these goals this coming semester and please feel free to reach out to me with any ideas you may have! I look forward to the semester to come and the opportunity to contribute to the Wond’ry!

Warmly,

Olivia Steinmetz
