Donation and recycling options expanded on campus April 25 to May 14 for Earth Friendly Move Out
Just in time for student move-out and spring cleaning your office, donation and recycling locations on campus will be expanded from April 25 to May 14. Earth Friendly Move Out donation and recycling locations will be available until May 7 on the Ingram Commons campus until May 14 on main campus.
Donate
The Office of Housing and Residential Education (OHARE) will have multiple donation locations set up across campus that benefit a variety of non-profit charities. At these locations, you can donate any usable items, including appliances, clothing, and other goods. Faculty and staff are encouraged to use the Highland Quad donation location, which includes a donation trailer that is easy to access without having to enter a residence hall. Additionally, you can post unwanted items on Vandy FreeSwap!
Recycle
In addition to donating any unwanted items, there are many convenient recycling locations around campus for common items.
- Electronics: Personally-owned unusable or broken electronics, computers, and appliances may be dropped off in the specially designated areas outside of residence halls during move out. Be sure to erase or destroy any personal data! Any VU-owned computers, electronics, or appliances must be disposed of in compliance with the surplus property policy and the VU property transmittal form which is available here. These cannot be placed in the temporary drop-off sites.
- Batteries: Battery recycling is available year-round at many residence hall and student center main desks. See a map of these recycling locations here.
- Ink/toner cartridges: Ink and toner cartridge recycling is available year-round at the main desks of the Commons Center, Sarratt, Peabody Library, and Kissam Center. See a map of these recycling locations here.
- CFL bulbs: Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb recycling is available year-round at the Peabody Maintenance Building and the Bryan Building. See a map of these recycling locations here.
- Pen and mechanical pencils: Pen and mechanical pencil recycling is available year-round at the main desks of the Commons Center, Sarratt, and Kissam Center. See a map of these recycling locations here.
Other recycling items, such as plastic, paper (including books and magazines), aluminum, glass, and flattened cardboard, can be recycled in the recycling containers near you. If you are staff or faculty performing a large clean-out and would like wheeled paper recycling toters to use temporarily, please contact recycle@vanderbilt.edu or call 615-343-2784.
