VU professor to discuss human rights in climate change and natural disaster on Jan. 20

Brooke A. Ackerly will discuss “Human Rights in Climate Change and Natural Disaster” at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at a seminar sponsored by the Nashville Chapter of the United Nations Association.
The free seminar will be held at Belmont United Methodist Church.
Ackerly is an associate professor of political science at Vanderbilt University and author of several publications on human rights including Universal Human Rights in a World of Difference and is working on a new book that explores human rights violations hidden in everyday life and how these violations are related to economic, environmental and gender injustice.
This semester she is co-teaching a graduate seminar with Melissa Snarr at the Vanderbilt Divinity School on Human Rights and Religion. Ackerly teaches courses on human rights, feminist theory, ethics and public policy, contemporary political thought and the history of political thought. She is the winner of the Graduate Teaching Award and the Margaret Cuninggim Mentoring Prize at Vanderbilt.
This seminar is one of a series of free monthly seminars sponsored by the Nashville Cordell Hull Chapter of the United Nations Association on international affairs.
