Vanderbilt University to create mountain of trash on Earth Day April 22

The Vanderbilt University SustainVU office, in conjunction with Plant Operations and Housekeeping staff, will construct a one-day exhibit – Mt. Trashmore – for Earth Day Wednesday, April 22, on Alumni Lawn near the flagpole.
Housekeeping crews who work in buildings surrounding Alumni Lawn will take their trash to the lawn that day. Mt. Trashmore will grow throughout the day as a visual display of opportunities to reduce consumption and increase recycling.
“Visually seeing the waste that we produce from just one part of campus should be eye-opening, and hopefully behavior changing,” said Jennifer Hackett, recycling coordinator. “Informational signs surrounding the exhibit will inform the viewer how much waste we landfill at Vanderbilt, along with the associated financial and environmental impacts.”
WHAT: Creation of Mt. Trashmore on Vanderbilt campus
WHEN: Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22 (best viewing will be mid-afternoon when trash has accumulated)
WHERE: Alumni Lawn located behind the Admissions and Financial Aid building at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and West End
