Student Health Insurance Overview

  • This website provides information about Vanderbilt’s Student Health Insurance Plan, commonly referred to as SHIP. We encourage you to review the contents of this site to become well informed about your coverage under SHIP. If you have questions, visit the Contact Information section to be connected with support resources.
  • Vanderbilt’s student health insurance plan administrator is Academic HealthPlans (AHP). To view information about your plan, visit vanderbilt.myahpcare.com.
  • Vanderbilt’s Student Health Center (SHC) is the primary care provider (PCP) under SHIP for all undergraduate and graduate & professional students. As your PCP, the Student Health Center also maintains online information about SHIP.
  • There is no referral required to been seen outside of the Student Health Center. For best benefit coverage, students should see in-network providers. You can utilize UnitedHealthcare’s Provider Search Tool to locate in-network providers.
  • The SHIP carrier for 2024-25 will be UnitedHealthcare (UHC). This change will go into effect August 12, 2024. For more details, you may view this email message that was sent on June 16, 2024.

There are a number of resources available through SHIP and the Student Care Network to support your wellbeing. This includes Telehealth, self-directed tools, and information about finding off-campus support. Learn more.

  • Summer 2024 SHIP coverage (for newly enrolled summer students) is effective May 1, 2024 - August 11, 2024.
  • Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) annual coverage is effective from August 12, 2024 through August 11, 2025. 
  • Spring 2025 SHIP coverage (for newly enrolled spring students) is effective January 1, 2025 - August 11, 2025.

DEPENDENT ENROLLMENT DEADLINES

  • Students enrolled in SHIP may enroll dependents for annual coverage by logging in to their account at vanderbilt.myahpcare.com. For more information about dependent enrollment deadlines and policies, please visit the enrollment page

 

Once your insurance coverage is active, you’ll receive an email letting you know that your ID card is available. From there, you can access your ID card through our website or mobile app 24/7. Download the image to your device, fax it or email it any time

You can also access your UnitedHealthcare electronic ID by signing into your account at uhcsr.com/myaccount. Once you’ve logged in, click on ID Card. From this screen, you have the option to view, download, fax or request an ID card to be mailed to you.

All Vanderbilt students are eligible to voluntarily enroll in optional vision coverage. Visit https://vanderbilt.myahpcare.com/products to learn more. Dental is included in certain SHIP packages*.

*Packages for international students (participating in any program) and graduate students (students participating in doctoral programs, the Master of Fine Arts program, or the Medical Scientist Training Program for degrees that will be conferred by the Graduate School).
