Reproductive Health & Parenting Coordinator

The Reproductive Health and Parenting Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking information, support, and referrals around all stages of reproductive health, which includes gynecology, pregnancy, and early parenting. She collaborates often with the Student Care Network, the Student Health Center, and Employee Wellness Programs to participate in outreach campus programs with the goal of educating and engaging students, faculty, and staff. The Coordinator position was a subcommittee recommendation made in 2022 by the University-wide Reproductive Health taskforce.

Bio

Hannah Proctor is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) who earned her midwifery education and Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. Prior to her graduate education, she trained with a non-profit in Jackson, Mississippi to provide support in emergency departments for survivors of violence and sexual assault.  After working as a full-scope CNM at an obstetric and nurse-midwifery practice in Knoxville, TN, she returned to Vanderbilt at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as the Assistant Director of the University’s Contact Tracing Program. Before beginning her current Coordinator role, she also worked at the School of Nursing’s simulation lab, collaborating closely with staff, faculty, and students.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH RESOURCES 

STUDENT HEALTH CENTER: The Student Health Center (SHC) offers comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care for students, as well as contraception (IUDs, Nexplanon and pills) and emergency contraception. Students who require care, should contact Student Health for an appointment. 

PROJECT SAFE:Project Safe provides information, support, referrals, and education about sexual and intimate partner violence (including sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking), as well as consent, healthy relationships, and healthy sexuality to the Vanderbilt University community. Project Safe also maintains the Sexual Misconduct and Resource Information list. 

MARGARET CUNINGGIM WOMEN’S CENTER: The Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center is an affirming space for women and for all members of the Vanderbilt community that actively resist sexism and all forms of oppression by providing resources and educational programming. The center maintains a list of sexual health resources. 

VANDERBILT CENTER FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH: The Vanderbilt Center for Women’s Health is a Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) program that offers a variety of programs and clinics related to women’s health. Accepts employee and student insurance for reproductive health services and procedures. 

PREGNANCY AND PARENTING RESOURCES 

VANDERBILT CHILD AND FAMILY CENTER: The VCFC provides supports and resources to the Vanderbilt community across the spectrum of life. Their websites provides resources in the following categories: new parents and lactation resources, early childhood care and education, family life resources, and adult/elder care resources. 

MARGARET CUNINGGIM WOMEN’S CENTER: The Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center provides a variety of resources including: 

  • The center hosts a Parenting Group lunchtime program for the Vanderbilt community that addresses a range of topics, such as school choice, screen time and gender socialization. Most meetings feature a guest who leads a discussion about a topic of interest to group members. For more information and to sign up for the mailing list, click here. 
  • Breastfeeding Welcome Here campaign aims to normalize pumping at work and raise awareness of the benefits for all employees. A breast pump is available for use at the center as well. 

TITLE IX: The Title IX Office facilitates student, staff and faculty accommodation requests for pregnancy and parenting needs.

Student Critical Support Fund 

In 2020, Vanderbilt University established the Student Hardship Fund to support the immediate needs of students experiencing hardships. In 2022, the fund was renamed the Student Critical Support Fund to better convey its purpose – to give students peace of mind in a time of uncertainty and demonstrate the power and values of the Vanderbilt community. The Student Critical Support Fund supports the immediate needs of students experiencing a financial hardship that poses significant risk to their educational success. The fund addresses unexpected expenses for active undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.  Students who would like to apply to the fund for reproductive health or early parenting related expenses should contact the Reproductive Health and Parenting Coordinator, Hannah Proctor at reprohealthandparenting@vanderbilt.edu.
