Vanderbilt University Police Citizen Seminar

Posted by on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in DOS News.

The Vanderbilt University Community Oriented Result and Expectations (CORE) committee is hosting the first Vanderbilt University Police Citizen Seminar on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm.  The seminar is a series of educational classes, demonstrations, and discussions centered on what Vanderbilt University Public Safety (VUPS) does to make Vanderbilt safe and secure.  The event will include topics such as the role and authority of VUPS, criminal investigations, community relations, statistical analysis, K-9 operations, and an interactive use of force simulator.  The use of force simulator is used by VUPS officers for de-escalation training.  This simulator will be open to the class to actively participate so they can get a glimpse into the decisions and actions officers must make in use of force situations. It is a great educational opportunity for DOS members to gain an in depth understanding of VUPS on campus and in the community.

Class size is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.  Please email Lt. Jon-Michael McDaniel (jm.mcdaniel@vanderbilt.edu) with Vanderbilt University Public Safety if interested in attending.  Lunch will be provided.  If you have questions, please contact Kristin Torrey, CORE Committee Chair, Kristin.torrey@vanderbilt.edu
