Departmental Announcements

Black Cultural Center

The start of a new tradition can be an exciting experience. Without a doubt, this was the case this past Move-In Day when over 300 first-year students and their families joined numerous student organizations and DOS entities in welcoming the Class of 2021. The class was greeted at Buttrick Hall and then marched to the rhythm of an African drum ensemble into the BCC where they toured the facilities, met our student leaders at our organizations fair in the auditorium and were treated to lunch and a time to relax before moving onto their next stop. Click on the link below to see an excerpt from the event.

OACS

The annual OACS Service Organization Fair will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7 in the SLC Ballroom from 2:00 – 4:30 PM. Approximately 50 student-led service organizations will be participating in the Fair, and more than 30 local non-profit organizations will be represented, as well. The Service Organization Fair is a great way for students, faculty, and staff to learn more about ways to engage both on and off campus, sign up for local service opportunities, and meet some of our outstanding community leaders. Join us for a time of exploration, relationship-building, and snacks!

The OACS Service Organization Fair is approved for My Vanderbilt Experience (MVE) and Greek Member Experience (GME) programs. Student who wish to receive credit will need to submit their completed participation card with signatures from two student organizations and two non-profit organizations by 5:00 PM on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Please contact Meagan Smith with any questions at Meagan.smith@vanderbilt.edu.

OACS invites the campus community to participate in the Fall 2017 Weekend of Service Sept. 22-24. During the Fall Weekend of Service, opportunities will be available across the city of Nashville for students, faculty, and staff to learn with and from the community through service. Service opportunities are coordinated by student organizations, campus departments, and OACS. For the first time this year, OACS will be partnering with Hands on Nashville to provide additional service opportunities with Metro Nashville Public Schools on Saturday, Sept. 23. This is a great opportunity to connect with other service-minded community members, and for student organizations to activate their community engagement goals!

Service opportunities will be posted on the OACS Anchorlink page in September.

OACS has a limited amount of funds available to support registered service opportunities coordinated by student organizations, contingent upon approval by the OACS Director. These funds are intended to assist with the implementation, execution, and assessment of projects. https://anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu/submitter/form/start/134078.

Student organizations or other groups interested in coordinating a service opportunity during the Fall Weekend of Service should contact Meagan Smith at Meagan.smith@vanderbilt.edu.
