Supporting a Survivor for Staff

Date: April 5th

Time: 11:00 am-12:30 pm

Location: Sarratt 325/327

Staff play a critical role in the support of students and in connecting students with appropriate resources. As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Project Safe Center invite staff to Supporting a Survivor. Staff will be provided tips and strategies in a facilitated dialogue for those interested in learning how to better support those who have experienced intimate partner violence. Staff are often interfacing with students who have experienced violence and trauma, and this workshop provides necessary information about the best ways we can support our students, while also meeting mandatory reporting obligations. This presentation will include understanding the scope of the issue, the impact of survivors, the neurobiology of trauma, and what to do when you as a staff member hear about intimate partner violence. Learn what appropriate and constructive support looks like in the immediate aftermath of an incident, in the weeks following an assault, and over time.
