Posted by on Friday, January 13, 2017 in News Blurbs.

Resilience 101 (Tuesday, 1/10, 3-4pm):  Resilience 101 focuses on the development and application of real-world skills that students can use during times of challenge and personal growth. Students will learn what resilience is, be given the opportunity to begin crafting a personal narrative that demonstrates their ability to thrive, and examine resilience-based strategies and skills. The central themes of these skills will revolve around internal and external gratitude as well as developing meaningful relationships. Ultimately, this session will encourage students to develop and engage in practices, routines, and habits that heighten how they feel, encourage a positive state of mind, and help them successfully navigate difficult situations to ensure they are getting the most out of their experience at Vanderbilt University. Introduction to Mindfulness (Wednesday, 1/18, 4-5pm): Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, and non-judgmentally in a present moment. You will become more knowledgeable about mindfulness practices, the science of and research related to mindfulness, exercises that foster a deeper understanding of mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to use when faced with stress. This workshop will challenge you to think about how to integrate what you learned from the session into your day-to-day life. Contact information: laura.c.little@vanderbilt.edu

Graduate/Professional Student Host Responsibility Training (Thursday, 1/26, 12:15-12:45pm): Host Responsibility Training is provided by the Center for Student Wellbeing. This alcohol and other drug education presentation will prepare hosts to have safe and successful events through the discussion of Tennessee State Law, Vanderbilt Policy, and DUI prevention strategies.  The presentation is approximately 30 minutes in length and is required annually for hosts of events where alcohol is present. Guided Meditation with Dean Beasley (Wednesday, 1/18, 3:30-4:00pm): Join us at the Center for Student Wellbeing as Dean Beasley, Dean of the Commons, leads a 30 minute guided meditation session.  The goal of this practice is to reduce stress and develop resiliency strategies.

Writers’ Accountability Group (Friday, 1/20, 9am-10am): The Writers’ Accountability Group (WAG) offers students in the graduate and professional schools an opportunity to support each other through the writing process, facilitated by a CSW coach. Members will meet approximately monthly for one hour sessions, sharing goals and accountability — not text. Longer write-ins are scheduled periodically as well, offering participants a committed writing time and space. Please email samantha.york@vanderbilt.edu to register.
