Mentors needed for The Transfer Mentoring Program

Posted by on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in archives.

This year we are trying a new program for our incoming transfer students.  We will be providing them with a DOS Mentor for the first year of their transition at Vanderbilt.  The Mentors will be paired with a transfer student orientation leader and will work together to help make their transition to Vanderbilt a smooth one.  Our goal is to have 17 mentors this year and this would be a great opportunity for a young or seasoned professional 🙂 Below is a description of the program and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Purpose:
To provide Vanderbilt University Transfer students ongoing advice, problem solving and a resource to help with their transition to a new academic environment.

The Transfer Mentoring Program provides the following:

  • Opportunity to connect with a Dean of Students staff member and a successful current transfer student who will serve as mentors and guides during their transition to Vanderbilt.
  • Useful information about adjusting to Vanderbilt that can boost success in and outside of the classroom.
  • Opportunity to learn about leadership positions, campus activities and organizations available on campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor sends an email during the Summer to their group to introduce themselves.
  • Mentor contacts the mentees at a minimum of twice per month during the first semester.
  • Attend one or more group activities for mentors and their mentees.
  • Join your group at the Welcome Barbecue during Transfer Orientation (August 22nd).
  • Accompany them to the Transfer Orientation social at the Wildhorse Saloon (August 23rd).
  • Provide encouragement and resources to help them have a smooth transition at Vanderbilt University.

Have FUN!
