Dear Dean of Students Staff,

The first-year student move-in process is set for Saturday, August 22, and Vanderbilt has a considerable stake in making the process as efficient and as welcoming as possible. As is always the case, we need a large group of individuals from across the University to assist with this effort.

Dean of Students staff who do not have responsibilities elsewhere are expected to participate in the effort.

We very much appreciate the participation of our colleagues from Undergraduate Admissions, Student Athletics, Student Financial Aid, and other offices and divisions across the University. However, your participation, too, is essential to the successful implementation of the move-in process. We ask for your continued commitment and support.

If you are volunteering for the first time, be assured that you will not be asked to lift or carry materials to student rooms. A host of student volunteers will undertake that process.

We need your help to oversee that effort, and to perform tasks that ensure the smooth flow of student/family and move-crew traffic.

Staff who have participated in move-in in the past report that whatever the process takes out of them—energy, effort, giving up a Saturday morning—is more than offset by the enthusiasm and excitement generated by being part of the welcoming effort for our new undergraduates.

Please contact Alison Matarese at alison.matarese@vanderbilt.edu to sign up.

Thank you in advance for your participation. I look forward to seeing you at training on Friday, August 14 from 2PM-4PM, and at move-in on August 22.
