DOS Says Goodbye to Three Staff Members

Posted by on Thursday, May 2, 2013 in archives.

Celeste Sagi has been director of Arts and Creative Engagement since October 2012.  She has done excellent work to bring energy and activity into the ACE wing in Sarratt and has fostered collaborations with other DOS departments, as well as faculty and student groups.  We will miss her bright smile, her insight, and her intellectual curiosity when she leaves on May 3.  Her husband has left the Owen School for a teaching position in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Business and since they’ve been married less than a year, she thought it might be a good idea to go with him.  Her family is in Durham, NC, so she will also in some sense be going home.  We wish her well.

Nora Spencer, Director of LGBTQI Life and the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center, is leaving after Commencement on May 10.  She has an amazing opportunity to work at a regional level for Planned Parenthood based in Atlanta.  She’s done such amazing work in the area of Women’s and Gender Issues that it is hard to list all of her accomplishments in the 5 years she’s been part of DOS.  We’ll miss her good work and wise counsel.  Nora has promised to keep in touch.  We will be looking for a director for each Center, which gives everyone an idea of the workload Nora has been carrying.

Katie Garcia is departing on May 15 for Chattanooga.  The search for a new Program Coordinator to replace Katie is well under way, but Katie is unique.  Her energy, creativity, and programming expertise have been valuable assets to the Women’s Center, as well as to DOS.  She’s worked collaboratively with many departments including OHARE, Greek Life, Student Wellness, LGBTQI, Transfer Orientation, and more.  She is also looking for new opportunities in Chattanooga and has left us with a solid programming legacy from the 3 years she’s been with us.

Three special women who have done excellent work and left their marks in the Vanderbilt Community – we wish them good fortune and new adventures.
