The Conference on Empirical Legal Studies 2010 of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies (SELS) will be held at the Yale Law School, in New Haven, Connecticut, on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6, 2010.
The Yale Law School and SELS work with the Social Science Research Network to provide an online paper submission system. To submit a paper for consideration, please go to the CELS 2010 Conference page on SSRN. The deadline for submission of papers is July 2, 2010.

Below, please find a call for papers/chapters for a special Founders volume of the Emerald Press – Research in Biopolitics series.
As part of the conference “Towards Consilience: Thirty Years of the Association for Politics and the Life Sciences” we are requesting submissions to be presented at the 2010 Association for Politics in the Life Sciences (APLS) meeting in Bloomington, Indiana and potentially published in a special Founder’s Volume of the Research in Biopolitics series. Submissions are expected to reflect on the academic contributions made by the pioneering researchers involved with the early development and advancement of the study of politics and the life sciences.
The contributions of the following scholars in the areas of bio-behavior, bio-policy, and bio-ethics are considered key for the advancement and mainstream acceptance of politics and the life sciences, including Carol Barner-Barry, Denise Baer, Bob Blank, Andrea Bonnicksen, William Brandon, Ira Carmen, Peter Corning, James Davies, David Easton, Vincent Falger, Heiner Flohr, Odelia Funke, David Goetze, Richard Hartigan, Sam Hines, Gary Johnson, Fred Kort, Jean Laponce, Joe Losco, Roger Masters, Steve Peterson, John Orbell, Claude Phillips, Glendon Schubert, James Schubert, Al Somit, Lionel Tiger, John Wahlke, Meredith Watts, Thomas Weigele, Elliott White, and Raymond Zilinskas.
Contributions to this special volume are expected to reflect on the work of one or more of these ground-breaking scholars and their influence on the discipline as it currently stands. Preference will be given to original research, although reviews and synthesis articles will also be considered.
In addition to consideration for publication in the Research in Biopolitics series, superior submissions may be considered for publication in the APLS flagship journal, Politics and the Life Sciences.

This conference addresses the social impacts, values, pedagogies, politics and economics of science. It is an inclusive forum that welcomes a breadth of perspectives on science from practitioners, teachers and researchers representing a wide range of academic disciplines.
The Science in Society Conference is held annually in different locations around the world. The Conference was inaugurated in 2009 at Cambridge University, Cambridge, UK. We are pleased to hold this year’s conference at Carlos III University in Madrid, Spain.
In addition to Plenary Presentations from leading speakers in the field, the Science in Society Conference includes parallel presentations by practitioners, teachers and researchers. We invite you to respond to the conference Call-for-Papers. Presenters submit their written papers for publication in the peer refereed “International Journal of Science in Society”. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available which allow you to submit a paper for refereeing and possible publication in the journal as well as the option of uploading a video presentation to our YouTube channel.
The deadline for the next round in the call for papers (a title and short abstract) is 11 March 2010. Future deadlines will be announced on the conference website after this date. Proposals are reviewed within two weeks of submission. In 2011 the conference will be held in Washington D.C. at American Catholic University, 5-7 August.
