Celso Castilho (he, him, his) is an associate professor of history, and director of the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies. He is also currently president of the Conference on Latin American History (CLAH), an affiliate of the American Historical Association, and the largest and oldest society of its kind in the US. His two main areas of research are on the comparative histories of slavery and emancipation in the Atlantic world, and on sport and the Latin American diaspora, on which he is writing a book about Latino culture and politics in the context of the 1994 World Cup.

Celso was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and raised in Los Angeles, California. He earned a B.A. in history at UC Berkeley, an M.A. in Latin American Studies at UCLA, and returned to Berkeley to complete a doctorate in history. You will see him around Memorial with his wife, Jessica, and three children: Luiza, Paulo and Jack.
