NSPM-33 and recent guidance from the Office of Science and Technology Policy mandated stricter requirements for foreign travel security, including mandatory training and travel reporting by academic researchers. Research Integrity and Compliance is following these developments closely and will provide updates on how to meet these requirements in the near future.
In the meantime, please note that while international travel is an important part of international collaboration it does present security risks, both to the researcher and their research. Research Integrity and Compliance advises the best practices below.
Best Practices
- Leave your personal devices at home when traveling to countries of concern or when carrying sensitive data. You can request a loaner laptop by submitting a help ticket to VUIT.
- Submit a Faculty and Travel Request Form at least 14 days prior to travel for personalized guidance from the Office of Global Safety.
- Be sure to book all business travel through Concur in compliance with the Vanderbilt Travel and Business Expense Policy.
- Make sure to follow all export control restrictions and reach out to Vanderbilt Export Compliance with any questions.
- Follow all travel advisories from the State Department.
